The draw for the Bausch & Lomb Championships in Amelia Island has been released and Maria is the top seed and has a bye in the 1st round. In the 2nd round Maria will play either Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland or a qualifer. Maria has played Bacsinszky once before in Zurich indoors at the end of 2006 and won in straight sets. This match will be played on Tuesday night.
The 1st seed Maria can meet is #16 seed Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain in the 3rd round and #8 seed Dinara Safina of Russia could be a possible opponent in the quarters. Daniela Hantuchova or Lindsay Davenport could loom in the semis. #2 seed Anna Chakvetadze and #5 seed Patty Schnyder round off the draw in the bottom half.
Amelia Island is a tier 2 played on green clay and Maria is making her debut appearance here and has no points to defend this week.
